The Department of Applied Sciences was established in 1976 and is an extension of the General Subject Department that was already in place, and one of the department's roles is to teach mathematics and physics and related topics in the departments of the Engineering University. The department consists of six important scientific branches, which are Applied Mathematics (currently mathematics and computer applications), Applied Physics, materials science, laser physics (currently laser science and technology), biochemical techniques (currently biotechnology) and applied chemistry. The department awards a master’s degree in all disciplines of the six branches in addition to a doctorate degree in the disciplines of applied physics, materials science, laser technologies and optics.
